Head injury and blood clots (decompressive craniectomy)
মাথায় আঘাত ও রক্ত জমাটA blow to the head can cause bleeding between the skull and brain (extradural or subdural hematoma) or bruising and swelling of the brain. A clot that presses on the brain must be removed quickly.
Common symptoms
- Drowsiness or confusion after an injury
- Repeated vomiting
- Weakness of one side
- One pupil larger than the other
When surgery is considered
- A blood clot pressing on the brain
- Brain swelling that cannot be controlled with medicines
How Dr. Zico treats it
The clot is removed through an opening in the skull. When the brain is very swollen, a piece of skull is kept aside (decompressive craniectomy) to give the brain room, and replaced months later.
Head injury surgery is emergency work: the sooner a clot is removed, the better the recovery.

Cranioplasty (skull reconstruction)
মাথার খুলি প্রতিস্থাপনAfter a decompressive craniectomy or a skull tumor, the missing bone is replaced. This protects the brain, restores the shape of the head and often improves recovery.

- A soft, sunken area on the head after previous surgery
When surgery is considered
- Usually a few months after craniectomy, once the brain has settled

Immediately if there are any warning signs. Even a mild head injury in an elderly person or someone taking blood thinners should be checked, because bleeding can develop over hours to days.
মাথায় আঘাতের পর কখন CT স্ক্যান লাগে?
অজ্ঞান হলে, বমি হলে, মাথাব্যথা বাড়তে থাকলে, খিঁচুনি হলে বা বয়স্ক রোগী ও রক্ত পাতলা করার ওষুধ খান এমন রোগী হলে CT স্ক্যান করা উচিত।
