Spinal cord tumors: intramedullary and extramedullary
স্পাইনাল কর্ডের টিউমারExtramedullary tumors (such as schwannomas and spinal meningiomas) grow beside the cord and press on it; most are benign and can be removed completely. Intramedullary tumors grow inside the cord itself and need very delicate microsurgery.
Common symptoms
- Back or neck pain that is worse at night
- Numbness or a band-like feeling around the chest or abdomen
- Weakness or stiffness in the legs
- Bladder or bowel changes
When surgery is considered
- Tumors pressing on the spinal cord or nerves
- A tumor that is growing

Sacral chordoma and bone tumors of the spine
মেরুদণ্ডের হাড়ের টিউমারChordoma is a rare tumor of the lowest part of the spine (sacrum). Aneurysmal bone cysts, hemangiomas and sarcomas can also affect the vertebrae.
Common symptoms
- Low back or tailbone pain
- Numbness in the buttocks, bladder or bowel problems
When surgery is considered
- Most chordomas, aiming at complete removal
- Tumors causing collapse or cord pressure
