Pott's disease (spinal tuberculosis)
মেরুদণ্ডে টিবিIn Pott's disease TB destroys the vertebrae and discs, sometimes forming pus (a cold abscess) that presses on the spinal cord. Collapse of the bones can produce a hump.
Common symptoms
- Back pain lasting weeks, often worse at night
- Evening fever, night sweats, weight loss (হাড়ের যক্ষ্মার লক্ষণ)
- A hump or stiffness in the back
- Leg weakness or numbness
When surgery is considered
- Weakness from spinal cord pressure
- An unstable or collapsing spine
- Deformity getting worse
- No improvement or doubt about the diagnosis
How Dr. Zico treats it
Anti-TB medicines for many months are the backbone of treatment. When surgery is needed, it drains the pus, removes infected bone, relieves pressure on the cord and fixes the spine with screws and rods so it heals straight.
Pott's disease treatment is mostly medical. Spinal tuberculosis surgery is added when the cord or the stability of the spine is at risk.

Spinal epidural abscess
মেরুদণ্ডে পুঁজ জমাAn epidural abscess is a collection of pus next to the spinal cord, usually from bacterial infection. It can cause paralysis within hours to days.
Common symptoms
- Severe back pain with fever
- Rapidly developing weakness or numbness
When surgery is considered
- Most abscesses with neurological symptoms need urgent drainage

Yes, most patients are cured with a full course of anti-TB medicines. Surgery is added when there is nerve weakness, instability, deformity or a large abscess.
