What is PLID?
PLID বা ডিস্ক প্রলাপস কী?Between each pair of vertebrae sits a disc with a soft centre and a tough outer ring. With age, strain or a sudden lift, the ring can tear and part of the centre bulges out. In the lower back (the lumbar spine) this bulge can press on a nerve root going to the leg. That pressure, not the disc itself, causes most of the pain.
PLID treatment in Bangladesh usually starts with medicines and physiotherapy. Many disc bulges shrink on their own over weeks to months.
Common symptoms
- Low back pain that spreads to the buttock, thigh or leg (sciatica)
- Numbness, tingling or pins and needles in the leg or foot
- Pain that is worse on sitting, bending, coughing or sneezing
- Weakness in the foot or ankle, or difficulty walking on heels or toes
When surgery is considered
- Leg pain that stays severe after about 6 weeks of proper non-surgical treatment
- Weakness that is getting worse, such as foot drop
- Pain that stops you working or sleeping despite treatment
- Any cauda equina symptoms (emergency)

সাধারণ প্রশ্ন ও উত্তরDoes PLID always need an operation?
No. Most people with a slipped disc get better with medicines, a short rest, physiotherapy and activity changes. Surgery is considered when leg pain or weakness does not improve after about 6 weeks, keeps getting worse, or affects bladder and bowel control.
Is microdiscectomy available in Dhaka?

It can, in a small number of patients, usually at the same level. Keeping a healthy weight, lifting with the knees and doing the exercises your physiotherapist gives you all help.
